The vco requires one external capacitor C1and one or two external resistors (R1 or R1and R2).Resistor R1 and capacitor cidetermine the frequency range of the vcoand resistor R2 enables the vco to have afrequency offset if required. The high inputimpedance (101282) of the vco simplifiesthe design of low-pass filters by permittingthe designer a wide choice of resistor-to-capacitor ratios. In order not to load thelow-pass filter, a source-follower output ofthe vco input voltage is provided at terminal10 (DEMODULATED oUTPUT).f thisterminal is used, a load resistor (Rs) of 10ks or more should be connected from thisterminal to vss.lf unused this terminalshould be left open.The vco can be con-nected either directly or through frequencydividers to the comparator input of thephase comparators. A fullc'Moslogicswing is available at the output of the vcoand allows: direct coupling tocMoSfrequency dividers such as the RCA-CD4024,cD4018,CD4020,cD4022,cD4029,andcD4059.One or more CD4018 (Preset-table Divide-by-N Counter) or cD4029(Pre-settable Up/Down Counter), or cD4059A(Programmable Divide-by-"N"Counter), to-gether with the cD4046B(Phase-LockedLoop) can be used to build a micropowerlow-frequency synthesizer. A togic 0 on theINHIBIT input "enables" the vcoand thesource follower , while a logic 1 "turns off"both to minimize stand-by power consump-tion.
